From Carbon Director Rob Foster, this adorable worm is about to find out what makes Pete & Gerry’s eggs so d*amn good. (Warning – don’t get too attached to Wormy.) We worked with the wonderful folks at Funworks on this ‘Eggs As Nature Intended’ campaign.
Rob explains, “Comedic animation is quite the privilege and we had a blast bringing this little guy to life. The fun was in finding ways to make him highly expressive despite not having limbs.”

Starting with the design for an oh so idyllic farm setting, Rob and team storyboarded everything out in a way that gave variety in framing to keep things interesting, and to maximize each little joke along the way. As the attacks from the chickens escalate, our hero worm starts to realize how much danger he’s in…

“Aesthetically, we thought it would be fun to go with a hyperrealistic approach that would let us get something playful and high quality, without being overly concerned about total realism (it’s a talking worm after all!)” continues Rob.

“In our design explorations, we created a variety of personalities through facial expression, proportions, and body color. Ultimately, the worm we went with checked all the right boxes to align with the tone we were going for.”

Shout out to Funworks for bringing us on for exactly the kind a character animation work we love to dive into!
Need one last fact about Wormy? “Over the course of the project we’ve called our worm Herm, Sherm, and Wormy. To this day no one knows his real name…” ends Rob.
